The Memory Still Holds
November 22nd - October 5th
GO4/ 59 Great Buckingham Street Redfern
Exhibited at BCFA, Brenda Colahan Fine Art
The Memory Still Holds is an intimate meditation on beauty, memory and the passing of time. Flowers, transient and continually changing, are a central presence throughout the body of work. Their colour, delicate forms and shadows speak to the experience of observing things we value move through states of being, while the act of painting becomes a way of holding onto a moment.
Yvonne East’s work explores the sweetness and fragility of beauty. Personal experiences of memory, grief and her father’s experience with dementia sit quietly within the work, while the exhibition extends beyond the personal towards a universal experience: our desire to preserve what cannot remain.
